A Brief History of Synthetic Chemicals and what Honeybees and Plankton do for us:

The widespread development and use of heavy chemicals really began with the beginning of the industrial revolution. More than 80,000 synthetic chemicals have been invented since WWII, primarily for the purpose of chemical warfare, and most from petroleum and coal tar.

The vast majority never being tested for safety.

Since then, (lucky us) they have been added to our food, water, clothing, household cleaning products, and skincare etc, without our knowledge or consent, but with much intentional suppression. Chlorine was the first chemical agent of warfare. The war ended with a huge surplus of this cheap chemical.

Motivated by overwhelming profit, it was added to our water supply and many other products. Chloride is the number one cause of breast cancer and can be fatal. Fluoride is even worse, and then there is ammonia. The list goes on.

In 2009 the environmental working group released a study revealing more than 200 chemicals in newborns. This is alarming and unconscionable. This is where we stand today. The government is well aware of these hazardous and deadly chemicals, but as long as billions of dollars are at stake, and the major corporations ie: pharmaceutical/food industry etc. control the government purse strings we must acquire accurate knowledge and make the necessary changes for ourselves.

Most truth is generally the exact opposite of what we hear and see through main stream media, including the usual women’s magazines.
With that said, here is a short list to be on the look out for avoidance.

Read Labels. Be well and have Joy.

  1. Triethanolamine (TEA) – PH adjuster
Highly toxic, used in concrete production. Causes respitory toxicity, is linked to cancer, contact dermatitis, and increased tumor growth.
  2. Ethoxydiglycol – Solvent.
Linked to cancer, causes reproductive toxicity, and is an endocrine diruptor.
  3. Phenoxyethanol (Ethylhexylglycerine) – Preservative.
Central nervous system and respitory irritant to newborns. Organ toxicity, and brain damage.

    4. Laureth sulphates (SLS or SLES) – foaming agent.
Linked to cancer.known skin irritant and respitory tract irritant.
  4. Propylene Glycol or polyethylene glycol (PEG’S) – Thickeners and penetration enhancers.
Known immunotoxicity, linked to cancer, a leading cause of eczema and contact dermatitis.
EPA warns: Avoid contact with skin to prevent brain, liver, and kidney abnormalities… Really? by all means , lets put this in our skincare.
  5. Synthetic colors/dyes for example (F,D,C, or CI followed by a number)
Linked to cancer, neurotoxic and heavy metal contaminants
Fragrance (Perfume or Parfum) – used to conceal numerous toxins
Linked to cancer, endocrine disruptor, linked to birth defects, neurotoxin, linked to migraine
  6. Triclosan (products labeled as anti-bacterial) FDA classified pesticide.
Endocrine and thyroid disruptor, linked to birth defects and tumor growth.
  7. Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP) – solvent used to create better feel and consistency.
Carcinogenic, reproductive toxin, linked to birth defects… well, at least your product ‘feels nice’ ( As long as we have our priorities straight!)
  8. Petroleum (mineral oil or mineral jelly ) Has many hidden names – Cheap filler, adds shine and a smooth feel
    European Union classified carcinogen.

WELL + JOY never uses any toxic chemicals at all, ever.
I make these products first and foremost for myself and my family, then my friends and personal clients, people I care about.

Worth Watching. . .

Lets take a peek into the world of the honeybee.

Unfortunately, the world of bees is in decline. Some colonies collapse due to plants and seeds treated with neonicotinoid pesticides, this is one thing that GMO’s do quite well, they kill off these adorable little creatures which play a key role in every aspect of the ecosystem.

Honeybees are the worlds most successful pollinators and are vital to our food supply, without them we go hungry, and other creatures lose both their homes and their food supply as well. When they lose their homes and food supply, some species become extinct furthering this dangerous chain reaction. The ecosystem exists in a state of harmony and balance, and when one crucial element is out of sync the entire system is in danger. Bees are an integral part of a healthy ecosystem and human health is greatly enhanced by the inclusion of bee products.

Raw unfiltered local honey contains a large variety of beneficial vitamins and nutrients and many report its advantage against seasonal allergies.

Same with royal jelly, which also contains other minerals and fatty acids.

Bees wax is a beautiful natural creation with mild anti inflammatory properties and antioxidants, it helps to neutralize toxins as well.

Beeswax makes a phenominal sealant to protect skin and prevent transepidermal water loss while sill allowing the skin to breath. It is both natural and renewable. Encouraging honeycomb renewal is an important part of colony health.

As candles, it burns more beautifully than any other wax, it exudes a faint natural scent of honey and pollen. When made correctly, it is both smokeless and dripless, burns brighter and purifies the air by releasing negative ions which bind with toxins and removes them from the air

So buy local honey, get or make some beeswax candles , plant a bee friendly garden, and by all means support your local beekeeper !

Plankton is just another example of why we need to use, and thereby support animal life. It consists of both, microscopic plants and animals (phytoplankton/zooplankton), and again is an integral part of the ecosystem. They produce 90% of the earths oxygen supply, and are the base of the oceanic food chain!

As for their amazing health benefits, they are an excellent source of omega 3’s, amino acids, DHA, EPA, carotenoids, antioxidants, nucleic acids, vitamins, and a host of minerals. They are ‘packed’ in a way that makes them 100% bioavailable to the human body, the cells absorb everything! With so many essential nutrients in one tiny little package they are more potent than acai berries and any other superfood combined .

These are something we would do well to include in both our diet as well as our skincare products.
